When Thomas Wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his first name. His memory is blank. But he is not alone. When the lift's doors open, Thomas finds himself surrounded by kids who welcome him to the Glade; a large, open expanse surrounded by stone walls.
Just like Thomas, the Gladers don't know why or how they go to the Glade. All they know is that every morning the stone doors to the maze that surrounds them have opened. Every night they've closed tight. And every thirty days a new boy has been delivered in the lift.
Thomas was expected. But the next day, a girl is sent up; the first girl to ever arrive in the Glade. And more surprising yet is the message she delivers.
Thomas might be more important than he could ever guess. If only he could unlock the dark secrets buried withing his mind. (From Amazon.com)
I read a review on this book once before and thought it sounded worth a read, but I completely forgot about it until last week when I was working at my library and stumbled across it by accident.
THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING! It took only a few days for me to read. The chapters are short and they end with a bit of a cliffhanger, to keep you reading. There were so many twists and turns that flew at me so fast I hardly knew what to do besides to hang on for dear life and keep reading! It was an excellent surprise from a book I wasn't expecting much from! I thoroughly enjoyed it!
There wasn't any romanticness in this book, but I think the next book may be a different story (pun intentional :-D).
The only complaint I have about this book is that there were these made up words that were sometimes used as cuss words. And there was a tiny amount of suggestiveness, maybe 2 brief statements before they were told to be quiet.
But otherwise I absolutely loved this book! The epilogue kind of ended with a cliffhanger, but the copy I got form the library included 2 chapters from the next book, which, like I said, the chapters end with cliffhangers.
Thankfully my library has the sequel!
